Product Description: 

The Haydock Chicken Coop Range is the latest in the evolution of this style of housing, which I first designed and brought to market over 46 years ago.  The Haydock Chicken Coops have features that have been added or tweaked over the 46 years I have been both a chicken keeper and a full time chicken coop maker.

As is the case with everything we build, the first criteria is that it panders to the bird’s instincts and welfare.  Secondly, it has features that enable the chicken keeper to maintain a standard of husbandry that safeguards the chickens welfare.   Finally, as with ALL our work, it is made with a keen eye to design, proportions, and build quality.

As a customer once said to us ‘this is housing even my neighbours can be proud of.’

The Haydock 700 Chicken Coop

Overall Size: 165cm wide x 70cm deep x 145cm tall.
Number Of Nests:  2,  fitted with nest shutters
Perching:  2m of  45x45mm  with claw friendly rounded  edges.

Accommodation:

  • 10 Bantams including a cockerel
  • 5 Laying Hens including a medium size cockerel.
  • 2 Large Fowl, fowl hens with a cockerel. When housing large fowl, we would advise having the optional Large Fowl Modification (see options)

Low Nests: Chicken are ground nesters, preferring a low nest.

High Perches: Chicken are tree roosters, so prefer the perceived security of a high perch. Top of the pecking order gets top perch. The 45x45mm perch has claw friendly rounded corners

Nest Design: The entire nest assembly is removable and fitted with night shutters, which bars access to the nests overnight, stopping night soiling, egg spoiling, and deters broodiness.

Reversible Nests:  As standard the Haydock Chicken Coops have the nest assembly fitted to the right of the pop-hole door. However, by removing and turning the entire roof around, the nest assembly can be fitted on the left.

Vented Ridge: It can be  undervalued how vital fresh air is for the bird’s welfare as chickens are susceptible to respiratory issues. The Haydock Chicken Coops have an air inlet vent at the top of the sides walls and an outlet through a vented ridge.

Raised House: The raised house allows the chicken  to get shade, shelter and dust bath  under the coop.

Cleaning Access:  The entire nest assembly and the adjacent wall are removable. Both  roofs open and the central floor panel can be lifted out .  

Roof: Both roofs open.  All the roofs including the nest lid are weathered in 20mm thick pressure treated shiplap boarding. However, as a ‘belt & braces’ feature, we also under line the boards with 4mm exterior grade ply.

Floor: Made from  MARINE grade ply. The centre floor section is removable to enable better access to address the compacted soiling that often forms just inside the pop hole door.

Perching:  From  45x45mm  with claw friendly rounded edges. The Haydock Chicken Coops  have  four  full length perch bars, however there are five perch location options, allowing the keeper a degree of variation to accommodate bantams up to large fowl.

Handles: For easier moving, the gables are fitted with stout trunk handles

Materials: The framing and cladding timbers are pressure treated, joinery grade, pine. Flooring is marine grade ply.
